OVERVIEW:

Uniterra is a leading Canadian international volunteer cooperation and development program, jointly implemented by the Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) and World University Service of Canada (WUSC).

Uniterra contributes to improving the socio-economic conditions of poor and marginalized communities in 14 countries and with over 200 partners in Africa, Asia and the Americas through the exchange of expertise and knowledge of Canadian and international volunteers. Uniterra believes that economic growth, when inclusive, is the most powerful driver of poverty reduction. The purpose of the Uniterra program is to improve the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable populations by stimulating growth and facilitating access to the benefits of growing and diversified markets. To make this happen, we are working with our local partners to enhance the income of poor and marginalized women and youth through better access to employment and income generation opportunities. PARTNER DESCRIPTION:

The Himalayan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Ltd. (HICAST) is an academic institution employing a public-private partnership (PPP) approach with a motto of “Agricultural Revolution through Quality Education”. HICAST was established by a community of agricultural and veterinary professionals in order to provide quality education and training in the areas of agriculture, veterinary and food sciences in order to increase the availability of skilled experts in the secor.

Ensuring ongoing training and professional development to its staff is critical to the success of HICAST. The poultry industry in Nepal has been commercialized however farmers and veterinarians lack the skills and knowledge to conduct accurate lab based diagnosis of various poultry diseases.

A Lab Technologist Advisor is being recruited as a volunteer to work with HICAST to ensure the appropriate training of its veterinarians and staff to meet the new demands and quality of testing required in the poultry industry.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct a review of current lab tests being implemented in the poultry sector;
  • Support the design of training on laboratory methods for the diagnosis of various poultry related diseases such as: embryonated egg inoculation test for different viral diseases; HA, HI test; Culture techniques; Antibiotic sensitivity test; Rapid kit test; Hematological test.
  • Promote the accessibility and participation of women and men, especially young women and young men, in all program activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or training in science, biology or a relevant subject;
  • Experience in a lab setting;
  • Experience in developing and implementing training programs, is an asset
  • Respectful to local culture
  • Good communication skill
