Uniterra contributes to improving the socio-economic conditions of poor and marginalized communities in 14 countries and with over 200 partners in Africa, Asia and the Americas through the exchange of expertise and knowledge of Canadian and international volunteers. Located in the municipality of Achocalla, near La Paz, Flor de Leche defines itself as an environmentally responsible organization. As such, it integrates the values of responsibility and social development into its management practices by placing human, economic, environmental and spiritual concerns at the heart of its business decisions. Through education, the organization seeks to improve the living standards of dairy producers, as well as sensitize the general public concerning the dairy industry. The objective of Flor de Leche’s constant quest for excellence is improving the quality of life of citizens. By offering a range of gourmet and healthy food products (cheeses and yogurt), free of chemical additives, Flor de Leche has positioned itself as an environmentally responsible organization. The objective of this mandate is to audit management practices at the “Chalet Flor de Leche” restaurant. By participating in its operation, the volunteer will familiarize him or herself with all of the activities organized by the restaurant, including weekend and weekday activities. This will enable him or her to conduct an audit of these activities and the associated management methods. Next, he or she shall make recommendations on improving the restaurant’s customer service and other issues. Finally, he or she shall propose marketing tools focusing on publicizing the restaurant’s environmentally responsible dimension. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Audit the present situation at the “Chalet Flor de Leche” restaurant in relation to management practices and customer service. More specifically, audit the “Chalet Flor de Leche” restaurant regarding its procedures, protocols, organization, amenities, management processes, menu choices, food preparation, etc. Recommend tools for improving this restaurant’s management practices. Recommend tools for improving this restaurant’s customer service. Recommend tools for improving the image of the “Chalet Flor de Leche” restaurant, based on its environmentally responsible dimension. Provide advice on improving the strategic utilization of social media, in particular to promote the restaurant as an environmentally responsible enterprise. Provide advice on the organization of guided tours during the week. Train the restaurant’s staff on social media management and tourism. QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in business administration, restaurant management or any other field related to this mandate. Experience in restaurant management. Experience in managing and starting up micro enterprises in rural areas. Expertise in marketing and catering. Expertise in the optimal utilization of social media as a marketing and promotional tool. Interest in agro-environmental approaches and sustainable and organic agriculture. Resourcefulness, flexibility and tact. Excellent ability to work in intercultural situations and ability to adapt. Excellent teamwork skills. Initiative and demonstrated ability to work very independently. Good command of spoken and written Spanish. Knowledge of gender equality issues. Experience in a developing country, an asset. VOLUNTEER BENEFITS AND SUPPORT: Support and guidance prior to departure and while on assignment in country. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada between the age of 18-70. With the support of the program, all volunteers shall undertake to make a minimum financial contribution of $1,500 for participating in the program.
